Science Week

The City of Oakley Recreation Division hosts an Annual Science Week in April. Throughout the week there are various science topics explored through hands on activities for you and your family.

Movies in the Plaza

Enjoy a fun evening and mingle with your neighbors “at the movies” during the Annual Movies in the Plaza Series, with one movie a month in June, July, and August.

Cityhood Celebration 

A birthday celebration for Oakley! Held annually on the first Saturday of July, this event has a ton of activities to offer for people of all ages, and the icing on the cake? An amazing fireworks show!

Marsh Creek Coastal Clean Up

The City of Oakley in partnership with Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed hosts the Annual Marsh Creek Coastal Clean Up in conjunction with the California Coastal Clean Up Day in September. There are opportunities for individuals and groups to participate.

Oakley Harvest Festival

Enjoy the Annual Oakley Harvest Festival with your family the Saturday before Halloween. With a costume parade, pie eating contest and a whole lot more, every silly monster in your family will find something they can enjoy.

Christmas Tree Lighting

Join in the holiday spirit, gather with the community and light the Christmas Tree. This event provides an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the bright holiday lights of downtown.

Accessibility

Hop on the freeway and head to San Francisco in under an hour. Just east is Interstate 5, the main highway that runs the entirety of California, north and South. From Oakley, you can be to Los Angeles in 5 hours and Sacramento in 1. In 3 hours, you can dip your toes into the cool waters of Lake Tahoe. From Oakley, all of California is your playground!

Outdoor activities

Oakley, CA and the surrounding areas provide plentiful opportunities to get out and do more than just smell the roses. At Cedar Glenn, you would be surrounded by tons of hiking, cycling, running trails and golf courses– just take your pick!

The Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve is the hidden gem of Contra Costa. For a fairly easy jaunt with adventure, we recommend the Hazel Atlas Mine Tour lasting around 90 minutes, then, break into other trails, and even an old cemetery afterwards!

East Bay Regional Park offers wetland walks and adjoining trails to explore!

Big Break Regional Shoreline offers picnic and meadow areas, a shaded amphitheater, boat and kayak launch facilities as well as a fishing pier.
